Board Certification Renewal
Thank you for your ongoing commitment and dedication to yourself and your career. Fields throughout the medical and allied health professions recognize Board Certification and the effort it takes to achieve and maintain it—massage therapy is no different.
Recertification communicates to the public, your clients, and employers that you remain up-to-date on developments in the field, that you continue to develop your skills and knowledge, and that you are committed to the ethical and safe practice of massage therapy and bodywork.

Please Note: NCBTMB Approved Provider (AP) courses submitted for renewal must be pre-approved. To check the approval status of an AP course, use the NCBTMB Directory and search for the course or the Approved Provider. If the course is not listed, please contact us at info@ncbtmb.org or check with the provider for clarification prior to submitting the course for renewal.
Requirements & Costs
Board Certification Renewal Requirements
- Valid State Massage Therapy License (in states that require licensure)
- 24-hours of Continuing Education from NCBTMB Approved Providers*
- 3 hours must be in Ethics
- NCBTMB approved scientific, anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and business courses may also be applied
- All courses must be completed within your eligible two-year Renewal period
- CE cannot be used multiple times within or across renewal periods and cannot be carried over. (If you renew late, your CE must be dated after your late renewal approval date.)
- Pass a criminal background check (performed by NCBTMB)
- Agree to uphold NCBTMB Standards of Practice & Code of Ethics
*Please note:
- Only up to 4 CEs will be accepted in Self-Care. Self-Care is NOT a requirement.
- You will be required to upload a copy of your state massage license and CE certificates when renewing.
- If your Board Certification has been expired for over one year, you must apply for Board Certification and must take the Board Certification exam.
